Final Televised Candidate Forum on Monday Evening (Updated)

The Olde Towne Neighborhood Watch is sponsoring a City Council Candidate Forum on Monday, October 29 from 7:30 to 9:00 pm. The forum will be held in the Council Chambers in City Hall. It will also be televised on Cable Channel 13, and webcast live from the City’s website. The telecast will be rebroadcast daily on Channel 13, and archived on the City’s website.

The previous televised forum is currently playing on Channel 13 several times per day (see Gaithersburg TV’s schedule here) and is available in streaming video on the City’s website, so you can watch it any time.

The final Candidate Forum (as opposed to the final televised forum) will be held at Asbury Methodist Home on Wednesday, October 31 (yes, Halloween) at 2:30 in the afternoon in the Rosborough Theaterm at 409 Russell Avenue. In the Asbury forum, the candidates will be asked about affordable housing and about how they would deal with increasing crime.

The election will be on Tuesday, November 6.

Recent City Police Crime Reports

Attempted Burglary
On 10-28-07 at about 1:44 p.m. GPD officer responded to unit block of S. Frederick Ave for a report of an attempt burglary. Police were told that at about 3:00 a.m. on the same date, an unknown suspect push a window unit air conditioner into the room. When the victim heard the noise, he went into the room to investigate and saw a figure run away from the building. Due to the low light conditions, the victim could not provide any description of the suspect

Burglary
On 10-28-07 at about 5:51 am MCP units responded to an alarm at 400 block of N. Frederick Ave. Once on scene they found one of the front windows broken out. The suspect(s) threw a large rock through the window, enter the building then exited out the back door. It’s unknown how much merchandise was stolen at this time.

Burglary
On 10/27/07 a burglary was reported in the unit block of Professional Drive. The burglary occurred between 10/23/07 at 7 P.M. and 10/26/07 at 4 P.M. Entry was made through an unlocked front door and property was removed.

Professional Drive is on the west side of MD355, just south of Game Preserve Road.

Attempted Burglary

On 10/24/07, at 3:36 a.m., police responded to the 200 block of Park Avenue for a report of burglary in progress. Upon arrival, the victim advised officers that she saw a black hand raising her bedroom window. Investigation revealed that the suspect cut a small hole in the screen, and raised the window approximately 2-3 inches. The suspect left on foot in an unknown direction of travel.

Suspect - Black male

The 200 block of Park Ave would likely be the new Summit Crossing townhouses in Olde Towne, which are under construction.

Aggravated Assault
On 10/23/07, at 9:30 p.m., officers responded to the 400 block of Girard Street for an assault. Suspect became upset and stabbed the known victim in the face with a pen. Suspect arrested on scene.

Strong Arm Robbery
On 10/23/07, at 11:30 p.m., the victim was in the 300 block of North Frederick Avenue when he was robbed of cash by two suspects. They were located a short distance away and arrested without incident.

Strong Arm Robbery

On 10/22/07, at approximately 4:45 a.m., the driver of a bread truck was making a delivery at a commercial establishment in the 12100 block of Darnestown Road when he observed the suspect seated on the sidewalk in front of the Italian Gourmet Market. The suspect appeared to have blood on his face and shirt. After the driver exited the truck, the suspect approached him and struck him in the face and appeared intoxicated. The suspect then got into the truck and drove away. The suspect drove the vehicle southbound on Darnestown Road and wrecked at Main Street. He then fled the scene on foot. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

Suspect - Hispanic male, 5′07″, 100-115 lbs, short black hair, wearing a black and white checkered dress shirt and blue jeans.

Burglary

Sometime between 4:00 p.m. on 10/13/07 and 10:30 a.m. on 10/21/07, several locked storage bins in the 200 block of Park Avenue and 200 block of Lee Street were broken into. Property was taken from the storage bins.

Park Avenue and Lee Street are in Olde Towne.

Rape
On 10/19/07, at approximately 9:00 p.m., there was an alleged rape by a known acquaintance. The incident is under investigation.
